That's something you don't see every day ...

We got married on an elephant!

What an amazing experience

sitting on elephantIn August of 2001, Naam and I were married at the Elephant Conservation Centre just outside of Lampang, Thailand. There were other people there who were celebrating their relationships or renewing their vows, but we were the only ones actually getting married.

Before the wedding we were taken through Lampang in a horse and buggy... there was a parade and elaborate merit making ceremony involving loads and loads of Buddhist monks.

married on elephantThere were Elephants, Lanna dancers and beautiful costumes. I kind of looked like I belonged on the cover of the Sgt. Peppers album... but that just made it all the more charming.

horseIt was a wonderful event... it even got picked up by the international press. That was because it was the first time the Elephant Conservatio Centre had ever had an event like this and they wanted to promote it. We ended up on TV world wide! We were interviewed by all sorts of reporters and the whole thing was very exciting. The Governer of Lampang and Chiang Mai provinces both came to our wedding!
