Evaluation... how you will be judged
Evaluation and Judgement
You will be evaluated in two ways... by the tribal council (the class) and by the chief (the teacher). The tribal council will judge whether or not the information that you gathered in your quest will be sufficient to save the tribe and the chief will judge the more detailed aspects of your project and presentation.
As stated above you will be judged by the tribal council (the class) and by the chief (the teacher). The tribal council will judge whether or not the information gathered in your quest will be sufficient to save the tribe and the chief will judge the more detailed aspects of the project and presentation. Please keep in mind that the formal aspects of English (such as grammar, structure, etc.) are not the only things being assessed. The presentation of your information needs to be as creative as the writing needs to be correct.. Some examples of creativity would be developing a role play situation, using cut-outs to make a collage or doing a power point presentation perhaps. Gaining new vocabulary through this assignment is important to your growth as a writer and reader of English and should be displayed throughout the projects. The presentation of ideas should be logical and orderly, and the content used should be factual and pertinent to the topic at hand.
Chief's Judgement (evaluation) Guide
The chief's judgement guide is intended to provide you with a step by step guide for what is expected of you for this project by the chief (teacher). Following this guide should give you a good idea of what you are supposed to do. Please keep in mind that the level of English grammar is not the only thing being assessed here in the guide.
You need to keep in mind that there are three main aspects of your presentation that will be evaluated:
- Your effective use of English (eg. Using new and accurate vocabulary)
- The quality of the information you present ( eg. Your presentation of ideas should be logical and orderly, and the content you use should be factual and pertinent to the topic at hand)
- The way you present your information (eg. Developing a role play situation, using cut outs to make a collage or doing a power point presentation perhaps)
Don't forget... you can see the chief's evaluation guide here.
Tribal Council Judgement (evaluation) Guide
The tribal council will judge whether or not your information can save the tribe. They will use the tribal council judgement guide . After your presentation, each team of tribal leaders will give the tribal chief a score out of 100 for your presentation. The average of these scores will be your final mark from the tribal council and will determine your level of mastery (eg red belt, black belt etc.). Your team will also give the tribal chief scores for each of the other teams when it is their turn to present their martial art.
Any level of mastery below red belt should tell you that more work and effort was needed to show that you understood the project and the level expected of you. Anyone who gets a blue belt or lower will need to see the teacher to discuss what went wrong, what could have been done better and how we could improve the mark for the next time.Teams that attain a red or black belt will have contributed to the saving of the tribe.
The tribal council is mainly interested in the quality of your information and the way your team presents it. Each team of tribal leaders will be doing the same research as you and they will be able to tell good quality information from bad as well as whether your sources of information were reliable or not. They will judge you on:
- The quality of your information. Is it interesting? Did you prove that it came from a reliable source?
- The presentation itself. Is it interesting? Did everyone participate? Did you use visual aids?
Don't forget... you can see the tribal council evaluation guide here.
. . . Good luck!
Once you have been evaluated your quest will be complete and you should proceed to the conclusion of the webquest.
